Chop Wood, Carry Water

Chop Wood, Carry Water.

The body must eat.
The body must stay hydrated.
The body must be cleansed.
The body must stay warm.

Chop Wood, Carry Water.

Without wood, there is no fire for the cook stove.
Without wood, there is no fire for the bathtub.
Without wood, there is no heat from the hearth.

Chop Wood, Carry Water.

Without water, there is nothing to drink.
Without water, there is nothing in which to bathe.
Without water, there is nothing with which to cook.
Without water, there is nothing with which to clean the dishes.

When I ask my Guides what to do, they so often remind me,
"Chop Wood, Carry Water."

It's the rudimentary practices of life, it's the fundamental building blocks that lead us to the other magical endowments or open doors we seek.

Therefore, when you feel stressed, when you feel trapped, when you feel helpless, when you do not know what to do, go back to the basics of being.

Take care of your physical body.
- exercise, move that body, dance
- avoid foods and substances that hinder healing
- drink lots of water
- breathe deeply
- practice yoga
- practice good hygiene
- spend time in Nature
- meditate

Take good care of your mind.
- practice presence, practice mindfulness
- meditate
- pay attention what you are feeding your mind
are you holding healthy, helpful, uplifting thoughts?
are you interacting with loving, uplifting people?
if you watch television, are you choosing your programming mindfully?
- avoid that which does not "feel" good

Take good care of your soul.
- pay attention to what feels good, follow that joy
- listen to music that uplifts you
- look at beautiful things, appreciate art
- spend time in Nature
- sing, whistle, hum
- express yourself creatively, whatever that looks like
- meditate

Chop Wood, Carry Water.

With each day, a new fire must be built and tended. Fresh water must be fetched.

Healthy daily practices are the fundamentals that lead you, step by step, down the path to the life you desire.
They are your wood; they are your water.

Most of all, love yourself. Be gentle with yourself. Relax. There is no "getting it right." There is no "perfect." There is only practice. It looks different every day. And it's all okay.
